Danny Röhl: Rangers head coach insists 'no question mark' about his future after board backing

Danny Röhl has been given assurances about his future by the Rangers board amid fans' anger about the post-split capitulation.

The Ibrox side have suffered three successive defeats for the first time since 2000 and are guaranteed to finish third in the Premiership while Celtic, who beat their Old Firm rivals 3-1 on Sunday, and leaders Hearts fight for the title.

It is another trophyless campaign for the Govan club - who end by hosting Hibernian on Wednesday night before their trip to Falkirk on Saturday - and there have been calls from some supporters to have the German coach, who took over as boss in October, replaced for the new season.

Röhl insisted there was "no question" about him still being in situ after the summer and when asked outright if he had been given assurance by chairman Andrew Cavenagh and the rest of the Ibrox board, he said: "Yes.

"I think the last 48 hours, there was unbelievable support from the board. Everyone around me sees a lot of positive things, but we are also critical of ourselves. I think there's no question mark.

"The most important thing is it is what I have said many times, we have to take all the information and what we need into the new season.

"I think you can imagine, with Tav [James Tavernier], we lose the captain and it means for us, this is a big signal as well.

"We need new leaders, more leaders for the dressing room, to set our standards that we want on the training pitch, in difficult moments in the game.

"I think this is crucial. This is a great opportunity to work on this.

"Yesterday, conversations again with the club and you can really trust me, I'm very clear, especially also after the last three weeks, what we need to be top, top, top."

Former striker Kris Boyd insists that yet another rebuild will be necessary over the summer and has once again questioned the mentality of a Rangers team that has lost three games in a row for the first time since 2000.

"What is worrying would be the continuous drop off from this Rangers team," he said. "When you play in spells that Rangers have been and they look a good team, but, all of a sudden in the moments you need to suffer - they fold. Rangers fold.

"They go as individuals and that's the time when you need leaders. You need to pull them in, make yourself harder to play against - they are so easy to play through.

"The drop off is concerning from one half to the other that Rangers are showing right now. They lost two games all season in the league up until the split. They have now lost three games in the split.

"Danny Röhl will come under serious questions now. He has already batted away the mentality ones but there is a mentality problem within that group, there is no doubt about it.

"When everything is going well, Rangers look a good team, but when they have to suffer, they fold. Röhl speaks about next season - it is a big, big summer for Rangers. They have obviously missed out on second place now as well which is a lot of money.

"Another rebuild - I'm fed up saying it."
